If they put ads on jerseys then they should lower to cost of something to compensate fans. I know it's a small thing putting a patch on a jersey but the jerseys are still a part of the NHL experience to me. If I'm getting a lesser experience then I feel I should be compensated. If they throw ads on everything then lower the cost of beer at games or make Centre Ice a little cheaper etc.

Tough call. Some fans want to have game jerseys. I think both options will be available. If other companies are kicking cash to Adidas, i doubt they say know. Free revenue string. Ok. Think of it from Adidas PR vs. Adidas accounting. Yes, we have all this potential money coming in, but does Adidas want to have its products associated with McDonalds (multiple human rights violations, pollution issues, HGH legalities, etc) and other similar companies on its products for consumers to buy? I think not. Adidas PR and legal will want to keep it as simple and lucrative as possible. They are not responsible for who pays the most to the Wings, Bruins, Coyotes, etc.. to wear that patch. But they are directly responsible for the logos placed on their personal property that they sell to the general public. What would they say if Shell or Apple or Nike wanted to buy ad space to sell off the shelves? It wouldn't allow it based on the PR and legal departments. What if a rival company that is in corporate sponsor partnership with Shell via the NFL or Premier League? Will they put that logo on their merchandise on the shelves? The amount of time and money it would cost their PR, legal, HR, and R&D departments wouldn't be worth the patch on sales. Yes, there may be some companies like Little Caesars or Moulson that put their logos on the jerseys because their companies own the teams and can work directly with Adidas, but I am pretty sure it won't be something we see for a decade or two on the shelves. And even then, the backlash of the East Coast media, Original Six team fanbases, and purists would cause enough backlash to take the idea of selling team jerseys with full swathes of ads on them off the shelves. I've read a FUCK TON on this and talked to a number of my buddies who work for the NHL, NHL teams, media, and corporate sponsors. The patch is the first step. And its a testing ground. I don't have printed evidence to back me up, but I do have 2 1/2 dozen contacts from my time in the hockey community to know that its not going to happen in a doomsday scenario. I see. You seem to be pretty well read on the subject. What you say is believable, especially the bit about adidas not wanting bad PR, my only point is that it gives adidas a new avenue to forge alliances with companies they may not have worked much with, and they can create additional revenue strings through that. If the jersey space is technically their property, then they can pick and choose who goes on there. But I digress, people are greedy is my point, and if there is an avenue that makes someone another quick buck with little hassle, most business owners would say "why not".

Thank goodness for whiskey and other forms of happy juice. (we really need a drinking smiley face)

It says he was on today. I see him pop on from time to time and occassionally post something. But its that time of year when things are getting busier. Either vacations, school starting, businesses changing things for the third quarter.
