The other day I was curious about the games last season in which Martin Jones supposedly didn't play very well, and wanted to know how much of it was him under-performing and how much of it was due to the defense in front of him. I watched the highlights from the games in which he posted low save percentages and what I found was that most of the goals against him were from either 2 on 1's, powerplays, or deflections right in front of the net (many off of his own teammates). There were maybe 1 or 2 weak goals but for the majority of the goals against him there wasn't much he could do. This leads me to believe that it would be unfair to call Martin Jones' play last season inconsistent, and his statistical decline can be attributed mainly to the defense in front of him. However, after watching more of Martin Jones' highlights, I did learn more about his style of play. He seems to be solid in every aspect of his game but the one knock I had on him is that he seems to over-commit to shots too often and leave himself out of position, and he also isn't the quickest goalie, so it can take him a while to get back in net. This would be my main concern heading into the season, but it's definitely something that he can improve on. Other than that I haven't seen anything to make me regret this signing so far. I honestly see him being an upgrade over Niemi right away. What do you guys think?

I think I'm glad the Oilers got Talbot over him but it's far too early to tell what Jones will be.

But in all actuality we don't if either of them can become legit number one goalies or are they just back ups. Obviously we hope they succeed they definitely have the high ceiling to become legit number one's. Time will tell.

I wasn't overly excited about either one to be honest but I'd take Talbot for a second and third over Jones for a first. For me if I'm getting a goalie then I want a sure thing and would have looked elsewhere. I'm super happy that San Jose pilfered LA's backup the way they did though.

Yea I wasn't extremely excited about either talbot or jones but they were two of the best available goalies this offseason. They're both pretty unproven but have shown at times that they are capable of being a number 1 goalie if given the opportunity. I'd say talbot is better at the moment but jones is more accomplished than talbot was at his age. I'm happy with jones in goal but would be a lot happier if we gave up a 2nd and kuraly to get him (which is what he should have been worth).

I bet ol' Dean didn't expect to see Jones anytime soon when he dealt him to Boston. But yeah of course who wouldn't want a proven goalie but that's kinda a hard thing to acquire in a trade, unless you're trading for a phat contract of sombody who's fell out of favor.

If you wanted to get Jones for a 2nd plus a prospect it would've took Goldobin, so i much rather we did what we did by giving up a 1st.

Here's the way I look at Martin Jones. He has a good track record in professional hockey. He has over 5,000 saves in the AHL + NHL. Personally, I was really excited about the Sharks chances to draft Mackenzie Blackwood at #39. We traded that pick to move up and get Jeremy Roy at 31. So instead of using a high 2nd round pick + 5 years of development. We use a 1st and get to skip the 5 years of development to get Jones where he is at now. I'm very excited about Martin Jones, and honestly I didn't expect him to get traded at all this offseason. Let alone TWICE! I think the kid can bring a lot to the table.

Was a decent price SJ paid for Jones. I hope he works out. Love how LA probably would have never traded him to rival SJ. So they sent him to the east, only for him to come and move in next door a week later. I hope he spurns his former team every time. (the kings, not the bruins)
