he's so bad that i'm not sure the nhl is one of the major sports anymore It's a shame, because baseball has gotten so boring over the years and basketball eats. The NFL is essentially a monopoly when it comes to American sports. the nhl, nfl and mma are the only sport i watch |

I think for some it's because they don't play hockey. Most of them grow up playing baseball and football so they like watching it on tv and reliving their "glory days". |

Most of them grow up playing baseball and football so they like watching it on tv and reliving their "glory days". I played baseball and hockey growing up. It was tough in northern NJ then, there weren't many rec leagues to play hockey in, my high school didn't have hockey until the year after I graduated, and I was certainly a better pitcher than right wing. But as far as watching, hockey was always so much more fun. I think it has to do with parents too. My mom had no problem with me playing Pop Warner football when I was real young, but she hated hockey and was always afraid I'd get hurt. Probably didn't help matters when I lost my front teeth playing roller hockey with friends. I honestly think most American parents still view hockey as 70's era Flyers savagery and that may hurt its popularity in America. |
