What was it called? And I've had sleep paralysis before, at least three times since I moved to TN. Its one of the most terrifying things ever. Yeah, that's happened to me before a couple of times...... fuck yeah it's terrifying, being conscious and not being able to move or open your eyes. The worst part of the SP is when the lucid nightmares kick in because you're still in a state where your dreams can set in. You believe that those shadows you see are actually real objects, you "matrix" them, that is, putting them into a context to what they most look like. Also, the fear of not being able to move puts you in to a primal type of panic/fear mode and everything is exacerbated by the dream like state. One of my most terrifying experiences was last winter. I woke up in a sleep paralysis state and it was about 3 or 4 am. I couldn't move and thought something bad was happening. I began to freak out. Well, some engine I'm guessing started up in a neighbor's drive way and I thought it was a growl of some beast. I looked around the best I could and I saw a shadow that I perceived as some hellish demon beast. It moved with what I assume were passing head lights and I began to scream for my wife to help me as I struggled to move. The problem is, my vocal chords were in paralysis too.. I remember hearing myself scream internally but all that came out was my wife's name is just the hoarsest of whispers. One of my animals was laying next to me sleeping and the pressure from her body made me feel like said hell beast was starting to climb the side of the mattress to come above me. All the differences in the ceiling shadows and the fan spinning made it so much more surreal too and I began to panic heavily as I thought this thing was crawling on top of me and I kept hearing its snarl and growls and I saw it just staring down at me from atop my chest. At that moment where I thought I was about to be "consumed" by it, my wife started shaking me to wake up as I was hyper ventilating and she thought I was having one of my chest problems. Scariest thing to happen to me in quite some time. |
