They need to rebuild Berra up first, at least half the season of him as a back up is my guess. If they can find a buyer for him then they will see Picks this season, if not. I see the Avs riding with Varly Berra for the full season, then buying out his last year and resigning Picks to a 2 year NHL contract. They cant lose assets in this situation buy having Picks playing too many games and then being waiver wire eligible if Berra is still kicking around . They should have cut ties with berra. He is aweful. Ill give him credit for showing a little life towards the end of last season, but he needed to be bought out. What happens when berra starts playing like shit again? You can bury some of his salary in the minors, buy him out at the end of the season? THE NHL NEEDS MORE PICKS! #freepicks  we will see picks again soon, but buying out 2 years of Berra vs 1 year is a better use of cap space, cant have 4 years of Berra cap hits lingering around if they bought him out this season. Plus they burned a 2nd round pick on him, they need to try to get something back for him. Its just better asset management right now holding onto him. They will figure it out soon |

This is all true, but he is just so bad. Poor varly nearly ruined his groin last year carrying such a huge workload because Berra couldnt figure out how to goalie. Berra is terrible. I don't know why they even traded for him with Pickard in the mix. Such a vast difference in talent between the two, its obvious who they needed to rely on. Well to be fair, I believe they traded for Berra before the emergence of Pickard. It was because of Berra's incompetence that Pickard was able to show he could handle the workload and be relatively consistent. Roy just wants to get some kind of return on his investment and make that trade look a little less terrible. Like Fatmarsh said, asset management. My guess is Berra will falter again by mid season and get buried in the minors and picks will come up and share time with varly before the all star break. Once the season is over, there will be a Berra buy-out. |
