I messaged him but I don't think he's been on here in some time. It says he was on today. I see him pop on from time to time and occassionally post something. But its that time of year when things are getting busier. Either vacations, school starting, businesses changing things for the third quarter. Yeah it's pretty dead in all sports related aspects too.

I've been in the minority when it comes to this advert thing. It's no longer funny for me to think of it that way.
It's probably going to happen eventually, and I'd be so nonplussed about this when it ever happens. You can find my "voice of reason" posts on Reddit, where I try to explain that the adverts aren't going to take up the whole jersey and that you can buy one from the team store without one... Blah, blah. I think that the only way I won't be happy about it is if they take out the television time outs and stick adverts all over visible equipment. I might tolerate soccer-style ads, but I would still be disappointed because it takes away from the aura of a jersey.
Aren't there other leagues discussing putting ads on uniforms? I don't know if the NHL wants to be the first one or not to do it. Whichever league does it first, however, is getting a lot of heat for it. Granted, the second one to do it will also take massive criticism over this, but what can you do about it?

For me and my ocd I like the clean crisp look of a classic jersey and I've always hated the way that the European leagues have their patches and logos all over.

If the NHL was going to try that, they would most certainly have to cut down on a lot of things to make it work. I mean, I would like there to be less commercials, but that would mean a few logos here and there - and that wouldn't fly. Some jerseys shouldn't even be touched, but I wouldn't mind testing with a few teams at the start. Let teams volunteer if it has to come down to it before committing everyone into it. Guaranteed that it would be a singular patch. If the AHL can do it, I couldn't see the NHL not doing it years down the road.

I could just about tolerate it if it was on a sleeve, or along the bottom of the backside of the jersey.... but if it goes all Euro-style then I'd be annoyed. And I am a Euro

We get a "diluted" product because the patches take away from the jersey imo but we don't get cheaper beer at games or less commercials or cheaper CentreIce etc.

I don't think a few patches here and there will be too bad and they already digitally add ads to the glass on broadcasts but I'm thinking that they will not stop until they've sucked every last penny they can.

They should just put ads on the stupid referees......

I agree 100% about the patch, its definitely the best case scenario as far as all the talk is concerned. I know Gary Bettman said there was supposedly no discussion involving advertisements on jerseys, but we all know that's BS. The guy is a born again snake. And I'm all for the "AHL type" advertisements if it means that that's the end of adverts on the jerseys. And welcome to the threads!

Some teams have a few of those. I think Washington was one of those. Ottawa has that kind of thing behind the benches.

It'd almost make more sense for the digital ads to be shown on the ice (think rugby/soccer matches), then that way they can even get local adverts set up. Leave the actual NHL jersey's alone, unless they want to be allowing a single patch sponsor, similar to how soccer teams are set up (Man U. = Aon) or how we used to have a patch on the hockey teams we had as kids. But like Dangles13 said, the Euro league sponsorship is ugly.

But like Dangles13 said, the Euro league sponsorship is ugly. Euro clubs don't have arenas that are huge like those in the NHL. Some of those buildings don't hold 5K sometimes. Plus, as mentioned, there aren't any commercial breaks, so sponsors have to be seen somehow - the circles and equipment make up for it. Granted, I don't think the NHL's ever going to go like that.
